Soloist or orchestra member?

My uncle was telling me that his favorite instrument is the French horn.

I told him I would buy him a CD of only French horn music.

His reply was that it didn’t sound good alone. It was best when blended with the rest of the orchestra.

This rings true for people as well. We do all right when we are on our own, but we are most effective when we cooperate with a group effort.

This is also why it is important that we are different. If every instrument sounded like a French horn, there is no purpose for more than one.

Likewise, if everyone is just like me, there is no purpose in duplicates.

Sometimes we wish people thought more like us, but it’s important that they do not.

If the whole body were a hand then where would be the seeing?
